Closing Date05/03/2021 MedicalDentalVision Posting Date04/23/2021 The Dean of Arts and Sciences is the chief support andadministrative position for programming in the areas of Math,Natural Sciences, Social and Behavioral Sciences, Fine Arts, andEnglish, Philosophy, and World Languages. The Dean advances the academic vision andleadership required to achieve high standards of excellence ininstruction and services with measurable outcomes for faculty,staff and students as they relate to academic planning,programming, and assessment. The Dean will incorporate a strategicand collaborative approach in the development of programs, faculty,and resource management, while working within budget parameters.The Dean builds relationships with internal and externalstakeholders through the shared College vision, mission, and valuesand meets the needs of employers and students. This positionrequires flexibility which may include occasional evenings andweekends.ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES1. Recommend, design, develop, and implement policies, procedures,and initiatives related to the advancement and improvement of artsand sciences programs and courses to promote student success, whilefollowing relevant, local, state, and federal guidelines. Overseethe development, review and recommendations/changes in courses andprograms assigned within the division.2. Provide leadership for the academic programs’ strategic planningactivities to align with JJC’s Strategic Goals and StrategicEnrollment Management ( SEM ) Plan, Educational Plan, AnnualProgram Updates ( APU ), and designated College continuous qualityimprovement processes for program improvement.3. Provide leadership and managerial oversight (e.g. recruit,select, develop, schedule, respond to grievances and recommenddisciplinary actions) of faculty and provide direct supervision toclassified, professional exempt, and/or student work/work studystudents. Adhere to the full-time and adjunct faculty contracts,professional support bargaining agreement/rules, and all federal(e.g. ACA ), state (e.g. SURS ) and district rules and regulationsensuring efficient operations and student success. Addressquestions and disputes regarding contracts and facultyworkloads.4. Lead diversity activities and initiatives as they pertain torecruitment and retention of faculty and staff within the AcademicAffairs division.5. Oversee the development, coordination and publication of thecourse schedules including adding and cancelling of classes.Provide oversight of faculty teaching load. Monitor deadlines toensure a holistic schedule of classes to promote studentcompletion.6. Maintain repository of adjunct instructors. Ensure consistentprocess of adjunct recruitment and credentialing.7. Participate in relevant community activities and initiatives;identify potential partnerships and leverage division- andcampus-specific, district-wide, and external resources.8. Engage in professional development activities, includingrepresenting the college at regional and national conferences andmeetings and staying current with trends and research in the areasof the division.9. Facilitate the promotion, marketing and communications (e.g.brochures, web page and other materials) needed for the departmentsof the division.10. Participate in state meetings such as IAI General Education andMajor Panels.11. Support college and career readiness programs as well othertransitional programs.12. Oversee the selection of full time and adjunct faculty, tenurerequirements of full-time faculty, and promoting employeesuccess.13. Maintain an on-going divisional plan which provides foradequate staff, equipment and facilities, including plans forrepair, replacement, modification, and refurbishment of facilitiesand equipment.14. Develop, implement, and monitor annual operating budget of thedivision and approve expenditures of assigned budgets.15. Manage approval of courses and faculty and ensure appropriateassessment and evaluation are occurring for Dual Credit courses inthe Nursing, Health & Public Services area. Maintainrelationships with staff at participating high schools andvocational centers.16. Promote the assessment of student outcomes in order todetermine the effectiveness of student learning and studentdevelopment programs within the area.17. Oversee the selection of full time and adjunct faculty,post-tenure review evaluations of full-time faculty, and promotingemployee success.18. Oversee the collection and dissemination of data needed foraccreditation, grants, reports, proposals, and budgets.19. Serve as representative of divisional concerns and needs,communicating both individual and collective concerns to the VicePresident.20. Collaborate with the Grants Office in seeking external fundsfor program improvement.21. Supervise professional development activities to maintain theskills of faculty and staff necessary to the positions.22.
