Through her courage, motivation to move mountains and, through her wisdom, an enduring legacy of lifelong learning.”Starling said Swisher exemplifies a virtuous life and completely exhibits unselfish love in her relationship with others.Because of that, Swisher was honored with a Celebration of Life reception at First Methodist Church in Troy Sunday afternoon.Swisher has been a longtime and dedicated member of First Methodist Church. The First Methodist church family wanted to recognize Swisher for her dedication to the church and her community, said Elaine Blair, church member.“I don’t know of any couple that was more dedicated to their church and community than Bobbie and Rhae,” Blair said. “After Rhae’s death, Bobbie has continued to be a leader in our church and our community.“She is a pillar of First Methodist. She has taught Sunday school. She has been on the board of trustees and she sings in the choir. Anything that is asked of her, she does.”Blair said Swisher’s participation in and support of the community is also celebrated.“Bobbie has served her community through the arts council, the garden club, the music study club and the women’s club. She is certainly someone that others look up to and emulate. We wanted to take this opportunity to recognize her. Bobbie balks at the spotlight but no one deserves it more.”John Jinright said that, speaking as a former student, Swisher had a remarkable impact on so many.“As a teacher, she gave all of her spare time to help us succeed,” Jinright said. “I don’t know how she had a moment to herself. She cared for us, nurtured us, and helped us learn to smile when life handed us a defeat or two along the way. Bobbie Swisher bring joy to everything she does.”In recognition of all that Swisher does and all that she is, First Methodist Church of Troy announced the creation of The Barbara Swisher Scholarship “to recognize the contributions of a virtuous woman and to support the efforts of young people who are leading lives that will ultimately change the world in meaningful ways, just as Barbara and Rhae Swisher have.”Scholarship amounts will be determined annually on funds available.
