Mac LOCHLAINN TELLS DÁIL: ‘ONLY SOLUTION IS TO SCRAP WATER TAXES’

first_imgDeputy Padraig Mac LochlainnSINN Féin Spokesperson for Justice Pádraig Mac Lochlainn has urged the Government to scrap water charges immediately, in the face of mounting public dissent over the hardship the measures will bring.Speaking on the Water Services Bill the Dáil today Deputy Mac Lochlainn said: “This Government has come under massive public pressure on water charges. They have been forced to introduce the proposed lower rates. This isn’t something they wanted to do. It’s something they had no choice on. Next Wednesday, however they will be faced with even larger protests.“Today they can take the opportunity to do the right thing and scrap water charges here and now. I am calling on you to do that. Sinn Féin will be opposing the Government’s Bill as it stands as the only acceptable solution is to abolish water charges, and to dismantle Irish Water. “Water is a right for all our citizens, the charges being implemented by this Government are unnecessary, unjust and will cause huge hardship to families and communities who have already been devastated by the Government’s relentless pursuit of the austerity agenda.“These families simply can take no more. You are pushing people over the edge. We have heard so much talk about democratic revolution. There is no democratic revolution in the Dáil. The democratic revolution is on the streets and at the ballot box by ordinary people who say that enough is enough. The continuing trends in the polls show that.“I am making this call today to urge as many people as possible to turn out for the peaceful protest planned in Dublin on 10 December. I look forward to standing in solidarity with the citizens of this State on Wednesday.“This Government should own up, admit it is wrong, abolish Irish Water and water charges immediately.”  Mac LOCHLAINN TELLS DÁIL: ‘ONLY SOLUTION IS TO SCRAP WATER TAXES’ was last modified: December 4th, 2014 by John2Share this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window) Tags:ABOLISHDail debatePadraig Mac Lochlainnwater chargeslast_img read more

Knicks’ last-second goaltend gives Wizards win in NBA London game

first_imgIs Luis Manzano planning to propose to Jessy Mendiola? Don’t miss out on the latest news and information. It was an odd finish for the Wizards, who outscored the Knicks 24-11 in the fourth quarter to send New York to its fifth consecutive defeat.“I’ve never seen that — especially in London,” Wizards coach Scott Brooks said. “But what a finish. This was one of those games that nobody deserves to go on their long flight home without a win, but it happens in sports.”Beal scored 26 points and had nine rebounds and Otto Porter Jr. had 20 points and 11 rebounds for the Wizards, but it was Bryant’s bucket — or, more accurately, the one he didn’t make — that mattered most.Noah Vonleh gave the Knicks the 100-99 edge with a one-handed finish over Bryant with 33.7 seconds remaining, and a 3-pointer by Beal rimmed out. Kevin Knox tried to run down the clock, but his off-balance 3-point attempt missed the rim and led to a shot-clock violation with 3.3 seconds remaining. That left Washington with one last opportunity. After Beal drove the lane, Trier and Emmanuel Mudiay failed to account for Bryant, who released the ball in time but had his shot swatted away by Trier.ADVERTISEMENT MOST READ View comments TS Kammuri to enter PAR possibly a day after SEA Games opening LATEST STORIES LOOK: Joyce Pring goes public with engagement to Juancho Triviño SEA Games: Biñan football stadium stands out in preparedness, completion PH underwater hockey team aims to make waves in SEA Games PLAY LIST 02:42PH underwater hockey team aims to make waves in SEA Games01:44Philippines marks anniversary of massacre with calls for justice01:19Fire erupts in Barangay Tatalon in Quezon City01:07Trump talks impeachment while meeting NCAA athletes02:49World-class track facilities installed at NCC for SEA Games02:11Trump awards medals to Jon Voight, Alison Krausscenter_img LOOK: Joyce Pring goes public with engagement to Juancho Triviño LONDON — When Bradley Beal felt his legs go out beneath him, likely ending his chances of scoring the go-ahead basket for the Washington Wizards, he spotted Thomas Bryant standing alone in the lane.Beal dropped the ball off to Bryant, who was awarded two points after Allonzo Trier was called for goaltending on his layup attempt with 0.4 seconds remaining, and the Wizards claimed a 101-100 victory over the New York Knicks at The O2 Arena on Thursday night.
